Treacle is a four-year-old brown Burmese cat living with his owner, Katrina, and his companion, Baloo, a blue Burmese five months younger. Since joining Katrina’s family in 2021, the two have been inseparable, spending their time play-fighting, grooming, napping, and doing late-night zoomies.
Affectionately called “Treacs,” Treacle is gentle and affectionate, never extending his claws and loving attention from everyone. Sociable and curious, he enjoys greeting guests and bird-watching from his favorite window perch.
As indoor cats, Treacle and Baloo have plenty of cosy spots to relax and occasionally go outside on harnesses for fresh air, though handling two curious cats can be quite the challenge!
On Christmas Eve 2024, Katrina noticed Treacle was clawing at his mouth, a clear sign that something was wrong.
Worried, she took him to the vet, where he was given medication and booked in for a follow-up visit after the holiday break.
But later that same day, Treacle’s discomfort worsened. Katrina took him to the emergency vet, where he was examined again and prescribed stronger medication to keep him calm.
At the follow-up appointment, Treacle was clearly distressed. X-rays revealed he was suffering from Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions (FORLs), a painful condition affecting the teeth below the gumline.
Several teeth needed to be removed right away, and due to the extent of the damage, another procedure was scheduled for two weeks later.
Recovery took time, with multiple vet visits and moments of discomfort, but with Katrina’s care and attention, Treacle gradually returned to his bouncy, affectionate self.
Katrina found comfort in a kind and knowledgeable claims agent that held her hand through the entire process. Even with the Christmas break and the involvement of emergency vets, British Pet Insurance’s claims team stayed in touch with Katrina and progressed with the claim.
Once all the vet records and receipts were submitted, Katrina was relieved to learn that her claim of £1,600 had been approved.
Katrina was ultimately grateful she had pet insurance for Treacle.
Having insurance allowed her to focus entirely on Treacle’s recovery without the added pressure of unexpected veterinary costs.
Katrina now wholeheartedly recommends British Pet Insurance to fellow pet owners.
Throughout the process, the claims team remained compassionate, attentive, and proactive, even communicating directly with the vet clinics to gather everything they needed.
At a time of worry and stress, Katrina felt supported and reassured. Something she’ll never forget.
Today, Treacle is back to being his affectionate, curious, and energetic self. Racing through the house with Baloo, demanding cuddles, and watching the world go by from his favorite window seat.
Thanks to prompt veterinary care and the backing of British Pet Insurance, Treacle’s health scare is now just a memory, and he’s back to living his best life.
